Vision Boards: Why we should update them

Recently I came across a couple of images online that made me stop and look at them again because I found so motivating and inspiring.

Having previously made a post about vision boards that included some of the images from my own board, I realised I needed to update it.

Updating my vision boards regularly was something I was aware of but had paid less attention to in practice.

Finding vision board images that felt more motivating than some of the ones already on there, made me appreciate just how important this is.

I have added some of those images to this post.

Why We Should Update Our Vision Boards

For anyone unfamiliar, a vision board is more than just a collage of dreams and desires; it’s a powerful tool for manifesting your goals, clarifying your aspirations, and aligning your actions with what matters most to you.

You can have one overall board, or several for different categories, like career, holidays, and home.

However, like any tool, a vision board works best when it’s regularly updated to reflect changes in our life, mindset, and ambitions.

Here’s why we should consider refreshing our vision boards on a consistent basis:

Our Goals Evolve

Life is a journey, and our goals are bound to shift as we grow and evolve. What was once a burning desire five years ago may no longer resonate with who we are today.

Updating our vision boards helps us realign with your current priorities, ensuring that our daily focus remains on what truly matters to us right now.

For example, we may once have dreamed of buying a house in a big city but now yearn for a peaceful home in the countryside. Recently, I’ve set the goal to visit Canada in the next few years.

By refreshing our boards, we can visually represent our new goals, keeping them at the forefront of our mind.

It Keeps Us Motivated

Staring at the same images and affirmations for months or years can become repetitive and lose their power.

Over time, our vision boards might start to blend into the background of your life, becoming more of a decorative piece than an actionable tool. Updating it injects fresh energy into our motivation.

New images, quotes, and goals can reignite your drive and enthusiasm, keeping you inspired to take steps toward your ambitions.

Reaffirm Success and Progress

An updated vision board is also a reminder of the progress we’ve made. When we achieve a goal, it’s important to acknowledge and celebrate it.

By removing images of past accomplishments and replacing them with new ones, we are symbolically telling ourselves, “I’m moving forward.”

This process reinforces our belief in our ability to achieve and reminds us that we’re capable of tackling bigger, more ambitious goals in the future.

Seeing our progress visually encourages a mindset of growth and achievement.

It Reflects our Changing Environment

Our environment and circumstances are constantly changing, and sometimes, external factors can influence our ability to pursue certain goals.

Whether it’s career shifts, relationships, or unforeseen events like global crises, our vision boards should adapt to reflect our current reality.

For example, during the pandemic, many people’s priorities shifted from career growth or travel to health and well-being.

Updating our vision boards allows us to honour these changes and adjust our focus accordingly, creating a more balanced and realistic approach to goal-setting.

New Vision Boards Encourages Clarity

When we update our vision boards, we’re forced to ask ourselves some important questions: What do I really want right now? What goals still align with my values? What dreams no longer serve me?

This exercise encourages self-reflection and helps clarify what truly matters to us in the present moment. It ensures that our goals are not based on outdated desires but are aligned with our current values, beliefs, and aspirations.

Boosts Your Creative Energy

Creating or updating a vision board is a creative and engaging process. It involves finding images, words, and symbols that resonate with our goals and dreams.

This process taps into our creativity and activates the part of your brain that thrives on visualisation.

Engaging with our vision boards in this way can help strengthen your commitment to our goals by making them feel more tangible and real.
